ARCH NEXUS SACRAMENTO
Sustainable Design for Thriving Communities
The Sacramento office of Architectural Nexus is home to a team dedicated to innovative architectural design across education, healthcare, civic, commercial, and mixed-use residential projects. This vibrant workspace fosters creativity and collaboration, enabling the team to deliver bold, people-centered solutions that shape communities and enhance lives. Leveraging client partnerships, community insights, and advanced technology, we craft dynamic, functional spaces that push design boundaries and meet the unique needs of every project.

Living Building
Renovating a building into a beautifully designed yet functional office that is energy positive, water independent, and inspiring was no easy task. Nothing worthwhile ever is. Our Sacramento office is not just a collaborative working space, but a part of a ‘visionary path to a restorative future’. Arch Nexus SAC is the first Certified Living Building in California.
Design Features
Water Harvesting & Treatment The recurrent water crisis in California has punctuated a growing need for buildings that make efficient use of water. In addition to waterless urinals, composting toilets, and low flow fixtures, Arch Nexus SAC harvests and stores rainwater on site. All water is treated on site and the connection to the sewer has never been used.

Solar Photovoltaic Arrays A reduced energy footprint makes it possible to generate all electrical energy on site. Solar Panels installed on the roof and the connected parking canopy produce 70% more energy than what is consumed by the office. The surplus energy is distributed back to the electrical grid, providing energy for other buildings in Sacramento.

Healthy Materials Living Future published a list of dangerous substances in building materials known as the “Red List”. All materials composing Arch Nexus SAC are Red List free. We worked closely with manufacturers to encourage changes in the material make-up of their products. We applaud those manufacturers who made these changes to improve the health of both people and the environment. Some manufacturers have worked with Living Future to disclose their product information to create Declare Labels. These Declare Labels can be used by project teams to help the material selection process.

Energy Efficient Systems Arch Nexus SAC has an Energy Use Intensity (EUI) 26, less than half of a typical office building. This is achieved through a highly efficient LED lighting system, efficient workstations, an air-cooled Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) HVAC system, operable windows for natural ventilation, as well as an optimized building envelope.

Daylight Exposure to sunlight has many benefits for office workers, including increased productivity and employee happiness. Additionally, sunlight is a free form of light for interior spaces. Arch Nexus SAC utilizes special daylight harvesting devices, Solatube's, to illuminate the office. These devices convert intense direct sunlight into soft, indirect daylight, which is perfect for beautiful, healthy interior environments. In addition to Solatubes, the office is adorned with over 20 operable windows, allowing daylight to reach every employee throughout the day.

Building Re-Use The most sustainable projects re-use existing buildings. Arch Nexus SAC renovated an existing printing office, saving massive amounts from ending in a landfill. All of the building material not re-used on site were collected and recycled.
